A word about VISION
Posted by: | CommentsHow important is Vision in leadership? I believe that there’s no such thing as a leader who doesn’t have a vision. What do you think?
Today’s post features a Minute with Maxwell on VISION. Click to view the video:
I love doing A Minute with Maxwell. It’s my opportunity to coach and empower you a little every day. The program is totally free, and anyone can view it. To be notified by email every day, when a new Minute is posted, simply fill out the following form:
Answering some questions on the 5 Levels
Posted by: | CommentsWhat level are you on as a leader at work? At home? With a new employee? I hope you’ve had the chance to assess yourself on the 5 Levels of Leadership, either through the book or the free iPhone app. (Search 5 Levels and John Maxwell to find it in the App Store.)
And if you’ve purchased The 5 Levels of Leadership, I want to thank you. I hope it’s adding value to you and empowering you to go to your next level of growth. If you’re still considering whether the book is for you, take a look at the following video. I recorded it a few weeks ago to answer some of the questions I’m most often asked about the 5 Levels. Hopefully it will answer YOUR questions and help you decide if this book will help you grow.
What does it mean to be a COACH?
Posted by: | CommentsToday I thought I’d share with you one lesson from my free daily videos, Minute with Maxwell. This particular video generated the most discussion, which doesn’t surprise me, since it was focused on the word COACH.
(If you can’t view the above video, try clicking here or here.)
Do you find yourself in a situation where you need to coach someone? As I said in the video, one of the most important gifts a coach can give is perspective. Because we all tend to make decisions based on our perspective and attitude, it’s important for the coach to share the big picture.
Here are some attitudes and perspectives that all people have in common, followed by the action a coach can take to influence them:
- People are insecure… So give them confidence.
- People like to feel special… So sincerely compliment them.
- People want a better tomorrow… So show them hope.
- People lack direction… So navigate for them.
- People are self-centered… So speak to their needs first.
- People get low emotionally… So encourage them.
- People want success… So help them win.

Posted by: | CommentsOne Word — One Minute
Posted by: | CommentsI’m a communicator, so words are very important to me. They can teach, inform, rebuke, compel, and encourage. In short, words can change people’s lives. Aldous Huxley said, “Words form the thread on which we string our experiences.” I believe that with all my heart.
Effective communication plays a critical role in every person’s life – helping us be better parents, better friends, more effective employees, and better people. That’s why I’m excited about something I started earlier this month,
It’s called A Minute with Maxwell, and it’s a daily video message from me, delivered right to your email inbox. For free.
And as the name implies, each video is short and to the point. In one minute, I share my thoughts on one specific word, suggested by a listener, with the goal of helping you see it differently and apply it that day.
Some of the topics I’ve covered so far: Growth, Wisdom, Procrastination, and Perspective.
Some upcoming topics: Passion, Structure, Fear, and Victory.
Of course, I can’t tell you all of the future topics, since more are submitted every day. It’s a lot of fun to read through and pick words that I believe I can share insight on.
If you’d like to receive a free video from me every day, click A Minute with Maxwell or the screenshot below. There you’ll see a welcome video from me, along with instructions on how to sign up.
After you sign up, you’ll be directed to a “Thank you” screen, where you can input any word (or words!) that you would like for me to talk about.
I’m having a lot of fun doing these short videos; it’s amazing that technology allows us to connect and interact over great distances. As always, my goal is to add value to you. I keep that in mind with every video I record. I hope it serves you well.
