What would YOU do with 24 copies of my new book? Enter to win!

By

Last week we had a lot of fun celebrating the release of Everyone Communicates, Few Connect. Between March 30 and April 1, I was able to give away over 40 signed copies on Twitter.

Now, after a weekend break to focus on the hope and celebration of Easter, I’m looking forward to giving away even more books.

Today we launch the BIG Giveaway on John Maxwell on Leadership!

And it’s for a lot more than 40 books. My publisher, Thomas Nelson, has offered to give away 20 cases of ECFC to 20 lucky blog commenters!

How would YOU use one case (24 copies) of ECFC to improve the connecting skills of people in your sphere of influence?

  • Share them with your inner circle?
  • Give them to volunteers?
  • Lead a book club with fellow students of communication?

Share your creative idea, and you just might WIN!

(residents of the United States and Canada only)

How?

Leave a comment on this post by April 12, 12:00AM EDT describing your idea for how to use a case of books.  If you want, you can even shoot a video as part of your comment, put it on YouTube or another video-sharing site, and link to it in your comment. Just be creative!

Next week, representatives from Thomas Nelson will choose their 20 favorite ideas to win one case of books each.

Then I’ll announce winners here and also contact them by email.

It’s that easy. Think of an idea, come back here, and describe it in a blog comment!

Notes:

  1. Only commenters with a valid email address will be eligible.
  2. Entries must be posted as a comment here on my blog, not via Facebook, email or any other method.
  3. Books are unsigned.
  4. Books are hardcover editions in English.
  5. Open to participants in the United States and Canada only.
  6. Winners chosen at the sole discretion of Thomas Nelson (not by John C. Maxwell or his representatives).

I can’t wait to see your ideas!

Remember the deadline: 12 April, 2010, 12AM EDT.

If I were selected I would keep one book for myself and then give the rest away to my 4 four teenagers and their friends.

I believe that the teens are a very important aspect in our future and if they can learn the proper way to communicate they could impact the earth on a new level by imparting their knowledge to the people that they meet on a daily basis.

Of course, I would keep 1 copy for our family. I would donate some to the public library and House of Refuge (a local organization for women and children). I would give 4 copies to my colleagues. I would then donate the others to the teachers at my kids school who I know would benefit and implement ideas from your book.

    Sheri Gunn says:

As I read the book, I’d pray and be asking the Lord who would make the most influence with the book. I’d let the lord guide me, direct me as to who to give them to … the people with the most influence on others. Would probably also have some type of free book give away.. maybe for people in the other countries who are not able to afford them but truly want to make a difference! One person at a time… making a difference… Love ya Mr. J Maxwell!!!! Who will you pass the baton on to???

    Robin Thomson says:

What an awesome opportunity to pass on the knowledge of leadership of John Maxwell to other people. First I would give one to the pastor of my church so he could start another book study on this book. Next, I’d donate a book to our public library. I’d keep one for my family. Then I’d split the remainder between my teaching colleagues and my church family so we could all do a book study together and apply it in our walk with God. What a difference this book could make in our lives.

IF I was one of the chosen few I would share them with my Business Team Members, my family, my neighbors, and my friends.

I recently became a fan of yours and find your books amazing words to live and thrive by. You have re-lit the fire in me for reading and I read your books every night. I can’t put them down!

I have already recommended your books to many people and loaned out all three of your books that I just finished reading and I’m on my 4th!

When I talk to my community about your books it’s wonderful to see the light in their eyes and their face beam as they describe your writing. It gives me joy to know that I have shared the books and the knowledge to enrich their lives. I plan on continuing to do that regardless if I am chosen or not. But, I can’t help thinking about how many more people I can give that to if I had 24 books to share!

Thank you for your consideration and generosity!

I am a Pastor in a Rural City of Kentucky. Being one of the larger churches in our City, I have a very diverse congregation with some very influential people who are members. The City Mayor Elect, Chief of Police, several City Councilmen, Teachers, Doctors, Bankers, Business Owners and Professional Men and Women as well as several Ministers and Volunteers are a part of our congregation.
    If I had a case of the “Everyone Communicates” book, I would choose 24 of our most influential people and give them a copy with 2 stipulations: (1) That you go through this book with me in a group setting (no financial obligation to you). And at the end of the group sessions, if it has been a blessing and a benefit to you — then;
    (2) You purchase 3-5 books or more and do the same thing for a co-worker, family member, neighbor, someone else of influence etc…. and do the same thing for them that Thomas Nelson Publishing and John Maxwell has done for you. Can you imagine the impact that could have on our community and beyond ?

    Kelly Janssen says:

I would love to give copies of your new book, Everyone Communicates, Few Connect to the most conservative political candidates that are running for office in my area. I would start with one for our state representative candidate, one for our state senate candidate & one for gubernatorial candidate . In making phone calls for them, I have talked to people that say, the other candidate is so eloquent or a more polished speaker, but I kindly remind them that it’s more important what they are saying & doing than just how they say it. Your book would be a blessing to the candidates to enhance their ability in how to connect with the thousands of people they are speaking to on a daily basis & in turn make them more effective leaders. I would also like to give their campaign staff multiple copies of your book too, because they are the mouths & feet of the candidates & can also be great benefits to the leaders by the way they interact with the people they come into contact with on a daily basis during the campaign.
Thank you so much for sharing what you’ve learned!
    Kelly

I would hand them out to the women who attend my discussion group – women who I am working with to help them overcome enabling/codependent behavior in unhealthy relationships. These women have learned unhealthy relational behavior from abusive & addicted home environments & are now learning new ways of relating as they come to understand their identity in Christ & their value to God.

    kk says:

I am the Director of a women’s business network and writer for business examiner I would provide each women who attends our meeting that day with a free copy. These are women in leadership who would benefit. I personally sponsor these meetings and enjoy blessing them with a gift at every meeting. It is truly more blessed to give than to recieve.

  12. 912
    Leah Fike says:

I would share with my discussion group and empower others on how to grow and expand their lives! My passion is to help, share, and offer growth in everyone that is willing to listen! Sharing wonderful information to others is my passion to prosper in this world! Shine the light and make a wonderful place here on Earth! Love, understand and share the reponsiblities we have and need to cherish today! Have a beautiful day, Everyday!

  13. 913

Give it to the seniors I know graduating this year. If anyone needs to learn more of these skills it is the young people of today who can only tweet, face and text!

  14. 914
    Lana Vaughan says:

I would use them as a unit study with the 6th and 7th grade students I work with at a public school. The limited school budgets barely cover the basics let alone the critical need for teaching the next generation how to be effective leaders and communicators. Watching their attempts as connecting and their communication styles being developed is heart breaking. I believe a large part of the social isolation and the violence that is coming out of that isolation is the frustration at not being understood and connected to each other in a positive way. Please give me this tool to help build meaningful communication skills in these precious and precarious young people.

  15. 915
    Terri Pagett says:

Wow, what an exciting opportunity. I would use these books as a resource in the development of people and how they are all leaders in whatever capacity God has ordained. We are a new church doing the work that HE has called. The development of good leaders in th church and outside the church is vital in continuing God’s work in us. We are to be witnessess outside and develping strong leadership within ourselves will greatly impact the Kingdom. Thank you for the opportunity to partner with your ministry as we, with your resources develope Great Leaders.

  16. 916

I would definitely keep one for myself. The rest of the books I would share with family members and members of my team. This would be a great gift to share!!!!

  17. 917

I am the State trainer with 3o leaders that I am responsible to help coach. They lead over 400 people. I would offer the book to the leaders that would commit to reading, internalizing and taking action on the principles taught in the book. We would read the book and meet to discuss and challenge each other to be better leaders and exceptional communicators.

  18. 918

I dont have a deep answer…. I would keep one and give the other 23 to 23 random people. I feel like effective communication is necessary for every person, so I dont have one particular group of people, nor would I think too hard on who “deserves” one or one who I think should receive one. Instead, I would let God lead me on who to give one to randomly. The challenge would be to “pay it forward”. This simply means be a blessing to someone else by passing the book to someone else when you finish, and asking them to “pay it forward”. This would allow the cycle of communication to grow, ultimately affecting many, many people!

  19. 919
    Scott Kelley says:

I would give 11 of them to my team members at work – engineers typically struggle to communicate well or just don’t all together – and anonomously send the rest to the top corporate exectutives of our firm!

  20. 920

WOW….Twenty-four copies of ECFC!!!!! I would connect…..starting with my inner circle of 12 women of whom I am working personally with right now….they could in return work with their personal teams…and as we say in Mary Kay…together everyone accomplishes more!!!! I would kick it off with a Party with a Purpose…where we would share about our “John Maxwell experiences”….he is loved in the Mary Kay world…along with a synopsis of how his new book can move us up the career ladder as we get ready to start our new seminar year in July. As we worked together the material in our own copies…I would also give them an additional copy to give away to one of their team members…as they worked with their team. Twenty-four copies reaching out to sooo many more…connecting from the start…Love you John Maxwell!!!!! Thanks for giving me the chance to Swing the bat!!!!!

  21. 921
    Maryann Garding says:

I would use them to plant a seed at the Fortune 500 Company I work for use the books to start a first ever Christian Leaders Networking Club there. Nobody has ever surfaced the need for this type of group because of the fear associated with starting a group that has Christian undertones in our company. I’d love to be the appointed leader to get this up and running and start spreading God’s word and your knowledge with our leaders!

  22. 922
    Carlos says:

I would share it with my inner circle for sure, but I would also share the books with the leadership and partnership of the firm I work for. I would also share it with people in the organizations that I am involved with as a volunteer and with other volunteer or non-profit like organizations to help them enhance their ability to reach, touch and connect with others.
An obviously, I would become a practitioner and apply the techniques myself so that I can help other develop them and pass them along to other people.

  23. 923
    Tim Roehl says:

I would pass them along to leaders I coach in order to multiple the books influence…and multiply the number of people influenced for Christ!

  24. 924
    Debra says:

Sharing this book would be such a blessing to the recovering addicts that our organization ministers to. We are facilitators in our county that impart leadership and partnerships through our 12 Step Recovery Program. We are faith based and have operated 41/2 years on volunteers only. Our clients have successfully completed the Recovery Program and are now learning leadership qualities that some had but stopped using and others have always followed but are now looking to lead. We are not state or federal funded, so this would be not only the men in recovery but our organization that is on a very limited budget.

  25. 925
    Jeannette Williams says:

I have enjoyed John Maxwell’s wisdom, insight, person, Spirit..etc. I especially like the CD’s as I put them on my MP3 player for later. Ok if it only books I would receive I work in a Methadone clinic where communication is key. I am also a minister at my church and believe what we do is a craft to be studied and learned. Effective communication is key to helping people (all of us) realize they are in need of change . So these are places where I would give them away

  26. 926
    Patti Jeske says:

I would give them to every Sales Director I know in our company. We are all studying on how to mentor our consultants to best meet their needs through heart-level communication (connection) with them so we can not only meet the apparent surface need (the material why they do their business), but the often undiscovered deeper needs they might have (the emotional why they do their business). We have been doing a lot less talking/teaching and more listening with better results. W.A.I.T. stands for Why Am I Talking? There is always room for John Maxwell’s wisdom!!! Love his books!

  27. 927
    Nola Brinkerhoff says:

If I won those copies of you book, they would impact all of my family. This dosen’t sound like much, I know, but when you consider that my youngest daughter is a Staff Sargent in the Air Force, Her husband is is the Army, I have a Granddaughter who teaches American Sign Language, a Granddaughter who is a special needs child that maybe all of us could connect with better. Then they are myself, my huband and our other children, their spuses, and other grandchildren and greatgrand children. Then if there are any books left, it would go to friends.

  28. 928
    Arlene Speakman says:

If I were chosen to receive one case of Everyone Communicates, Few Connect, I would consider myself blessed. They would be placed in the hands of our ministerial staff, all church staff, and the volunteers from church who teach our men, women and children. The remainder I would share with young men and women who are the communicators of the next generation, and with whom I perceive a great need of the “how to” of effective communication. Lastly, I would keep one for my own personal library that I might not only be enlightened, but share with those I counsel and mentor. Thank you!

  29. 929
    Lori says:

This book will be invaluable to all of my teaching staff at Pilot Point High School, Pilot Point, TX. I would lead a book study with my staff. Connecting and communicating is essential in reaching high school students. I would hope that the teachers would in turn share what they have learned from this book with their students.

  30. 930
    Roger Haber says:

As president of CB Mission Northeast, a fellowship of 250 churches in New York and the New England states, I’d love to give copies of the book to our cluster leaders throughout the region. I would also use a few to help train our elder team in communicating for the King!

  31. 931
    Cathie Cottrell says:

How interesting that this book holds the answer that our church needs. It is the exact work that we need to change in “connecting with one another”.

I would give these books out to all leaders in our church (First Assembly of God) and then give the rest out to members or others interested.

Wow what an opportunity for our church to get these books!

  32. 932
    Kat says:

“You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.” – Charles “Tremendous” Jones
John, your books have given shape to my life for many years and I have 24 Emerging Leaders ready to be all that God intended them to be. These Katalysts know that 90% of their results will come from preparation. This book will lay a solid foundation for the internal, external and eternal impact they will have in the lives of those they connect with for generations to come!

  33. 933

I would hand this book out to a group of young adults I mentor and minister to as well as key leaders within my ministry.

Then I’d give a few to of my other friends who are active bloggers and book reviewers to share the wonderful insights I know this book will contain to spread the word about ECFC.

  34. 934
    Barb Niziol says:

Give a copy to the pasters at our church, and the church we attend out of town and with friends and family that would see the benefit!!!

  35. 935
    Ricky Valenzuela says:

I would pass them on ministers I am training all over the world.

  36. 936
    Brandon Wood says:

I would read 1 book a month for 24 months. At the end of each month, I would give the book I finished to a fellow friend, coworker, family member, etc and make plans to meet and discuss our own thoughts, ideas and interpretation. After 2 years of reading the book and 23 other brains discussing its knowledge, I am confident this will greatly advance my own understanding, personal development and growth I strive for everyday as a LEADER.

  37. 937
    Grace Bower says:

As i am in New Zealand I am not technically eligible for this competition. BUT – would I be eligible to nominate a Canadian based global organisation in SaltSpring Island Vancouver? Linda Kavelin Popov and her husband Dr Dan Popov and her brother John Kavelin who died last year co-founded The Virtues Project International over 20 years ago. This multi-cultural, multi-faith organisation in about 90 countries has five major strategies – one of which is speaking the Language of the virtues. As one of the 70 contributors I have read all the drafts so I KNOW it is a VIRTUE-Full book. I would love to surprise them with a caselot of books given in memoriam of John Kavelin who truly knew how to connect with people the world over. The way he joyfully accepted his journey with brain cancer inspired people the world over and his sister Linda is writing that story. It would be up to them if they used them as a fundraiser or a reward or and introduction -I know their integrity as world changers. Thanks and all the best.

    Ryker Kern says:

They would go to awesome Marines, who are growing by leaps and bounds in their faith and walk with the Lord. We also have a library for the guys stationed here at 29 Palms Marine Base to check out books. A few would also get sent to some of our Christian brothers who have been involved in our ministry and now have deployed to Afghanistan… they need reading material.

  39. 939
    Krissie says:

I would first keep a copy for myself. I have read all of your books John and love each one of them. Your books have transformed me a couple of ways. First, as the person I am. Second, as the leader I have become. Finally, leaders whom I have helped transform themselves into significant leaders.
Second, I would give a copy to each of my unbelievably awesome upline (2 of which are identified in the book, Terry & Jenny Brown).
Third, I would give a copy of the book to my fellow educator colleagues (principal, vice principal, staff, and previous staff members).
Along with my fellow educators, I would also give a copy to our Superintendent & his staff as well as our PTA (Parent Teacher Association) and CTA (California Teacher’s Association) Presidnets. Understanding how to communicate not only with fellow friends/family but how to communicate more effectively with future leaders and our staffs are highly important as it can change how people interact and behave with others.

  40. 940
    Yvonne Green says:

They would go to awesome staff @ Mercy Ministries. Recently we teamed up to help w/ sex trafficing which only made sense. This is home where girls 13-28 years old stay free who have gone through abuse/eating disorders ectra… So thankful for Joyce Meyer Ministries which bought land for 1 of the homes and deeded it over to Mercy Ministries. They use God’s word to address every issue. As a result 80% accept Jesus as their LORD n Saviour and over 90% answer a call to follow God. Top 3 areas are Missionaires, Seminary, Counseling but to use God’s word.

  41. 941
    Randy Horden says:

I heard John speak in March 2009 and was inspired to do a couples seminar around the book, “Putting your Dreams to the Test.” A new group would be assembled to delve into John’s latest book.
Communication is simple if understood, impossible if misunderstood.

  42. 942
    Gustavo Celaya says:

I will give it to the first 40 teachers that I get in contact with, asking them for the commitment to read it and make a summary by May t12th 2010. Then I will put the 40 summaries in this blog to share them with all the people who connect here.
    Gustavo Celaya

  43. 943

I would keep one copy for myself and then wait for John Maxwell to come to Atlanta so that I can get my copy signed – Of Course. Then the other 23 I would LOAN to my team of 40 plus agents that teach financial concepts to potential clients and future financial educators. This would create extreme CONNECTABILITY for my educators. Not only improving there business life but there personal lives also.

  44. 944
    Roy Gibson says:

I work with a multi-level marketing company and we do presentations of our business and I would see to it that all of these books are placed in the hands of these people that have to connect through their presentation with prospected business partners. In my own presentation I have used much of the material that I gleaned during the writing of this book. It has been very helpful in my own presentation giving. Thanks for the knowledge. I am going to purchase the book even if I don’t win the books and I hope to see you in Atlanta at 5Linx National Training Event.

  45. 945
    Stephen Williamson says:

A case of Everyone Communicates, Few Connect would be a help to me and my cohorts that are in the last 8-weeks of a Masters of Public Administration degree program at Bellevue University. The cohort group is comprised of public safety, municipal and non-profit leaders over five states that would benefit froma current published book. The rest of our program is focusing on leadership, and John Maxwell’s recent book would be a great bonus to a group of knowledge hungry students aiming to gain further insight and knowledge on the latest leadership methods and styles. I am hopeful that you will assist me and my cohorts in obtaining the latest information for our degree. Thanks in advance!

  46. 946
    Dan Beekman says:

I own the book and have it on my shelf as a reference (counseling office). It is also very important information for people to take home and in their comfort zone, understand the principles described. I also play in a band and would love to be able to hand these out to audience members- where it is important to be able to identify with people and relate in such a way that increases influence. (sound familiar)TRUTH.

  47. 947

My wife asked what I was doing on the computer.
I responded by saying reading about John Maxwell and his publisher giving away 20 cases of his new book titled “Everyone Communicates, Few Connect.” And what you would do with 24 books if you were selected.
Wife looks at me and says “Not everyone communicates— with the obvious indication that I should communicate better.
I say that is exactly the point of the excerpt I have been reading. There is communication put the phone has dropped the call and isn’t realized yet–no connection.
Wife responds by saying…you better read that book, TWICE. :-) It would be funnier if it wasn’t so accurate.

What I would do with 24 books is:

    Read one for myself
Give one to each of my siblings and spouses siblings
Give a copy to my parents and inlaws
Give a copy to each member of a reading group that reads a book a month to be discussed.
    Give Coworkers a copy
Leaders who have inspired me (business, religion and education fields)

Prior to passing out each copy I would write a request in each book to post thoughts/comments to the JohnMaxwell blog for all to benefit as well as ask each person to read the book in one month and then give it to someone they deem appropriate with the same direction to read it in a month and pass it on. Within one year those 24 books would be read by over 250 people.

    Wayne Pehrson

P.S. Follow-up to the conversation above. 20 minutes later my wife asks what I am doing now (still on the computer.) I said winning a case of books. She smirks and says telling them how you need to read each and every book. I say it is the same book just 24 copies..she smiles and says yep you can read it 24 times :) Needless to say she (and I) would appreciate if I won!!

  48. 948

Hello Dr. Maxwell, I have enjoyed your materials for sometimes now and i just love them. I will send one copy of the book to the president of the USA, and I will use the rest as teaching material to a group of young men and women we are mentoring; yesterday i spoke to them about the five levels of relationships from your materials, and they loved it.
I will take some books to Colombia, i just came back from there and witness the desire that they displayed for growth. I have started reading it already, so whether i get the 24 copies or not, i’m still going to use it for my personal growth and for teaching others everywhere i go.
I wanted to send a picture of the people we are mentoring and the video from colombia, but i don’t know how to upload them.
    i’ll just try anyway

    Paula Schult says:

I would do what I normally do with a brilliant book (as I know from your previous books, this book no doubt will follow suite) read it and pass it on to people who are closest and most important to me. After they start reading it I ask that they share the same knowledge and book with others. This would start off with my family in the states then come with me over in Australia, where I currently work as a Personal trainer. I am an American, I’m just working abroad for a couple years.
I have always kept myself educated with great authors, you are on my top 5 lists. Life is a never ending educational ride, there is always something to be learned.

  50. 950
    Caroline says:

I would offer these to my fellow associates and mentors and would offer to new team members and members who appreciate the writings of a great author! I would make sure I read it over and over to insure I understand and drink the kool-aid! Love it! Thanks for the words..

Well, I wouldn’t use a copy to level my monitor.
Having just started a new job with a different employer in January, I would give 11 copies to my new team for our monthly Book Club lunch-and-learn sessions that I just started. I would give one copy to the new Youth Pastor at our church as he doesn’t know what he doesn’t know when it comes to building connections with a wide variation in audience and I wan to see him succeed. I would give 4 copies to our HR Manager and HR Staff as they can benefit from recognizing when people are connecting and when they aren’t – and how to coach for it. The remaining 5 copies would go to Steve Austin and his staff at 180 Degree Ministries in Murfreesboro, TN. Connecting with people who have hit bottom is what Steve and his team do best. It’s not behavior modification but the love of Jesus that breaks the bondage of those in situations anchored in lies. Steve and 180 reaches people where they are and leads them along a journey of understanding their additions and learning that all ground at the foot of the cross is level. Steve and his team’s success is dependent on the quality of connect that is achieved and fostered.

Wow What a treasure! To be able to giveaway 24 lifechanging books!! I would create a fancy bookplate to each person so they knew how much I appreciated them and the difference they made in not just my world but the whole world. I would send at least half to people who probably don’t know John because they move in different worlds and the other half to people who are shining examples of connecting but too humble to promote themselves.

Two people I saw on television yesterday – Emily Kingsley who wrote Welcome to Holland and helped many people cope with the death of dreams and John, the father in the film Extraordinary Measures who in saving his children has changed 1000 others.

Peter. H Reynolds who has written and illustrated children’s book extraordinaire that give life and hope to adults as well.
Paul Reynolds, his identical twin brother who co-leads Fablevision and impacts the creative and educational worlds with generosity and integrity.
Janet Reynolds who runs the family bookshop The Blue Bunny in Dedham Square MA so needs her own copy!

Patti Digh of 37days dot com who inspires with Life is a Verb and has Creative is a verb coming soon.Virgina and Sue who have foundations that make a difference both in America and overseas.

Linda and Dan who co-created a global initiative that was recognised by the UN in the Year of the Family and is still imacting over 90 countries around the world
Brandon and Kevin who are connecting globally with life changing strategies to give freedom.

Aaron and Holly the parents of Olivia, Will and Kate (prayforKate dot com) who are living their journey with grace and fortitude

Joe and Sarah (lassooing the moon) who have show extraordinary understanding of parenting before birth knowing the day their son come into the world was the day he would leave it and are sharing their journey with humility and grace.

Holly Gerth of Dayspring Cards and incourage
Mary de Muth who has just published her memoirs Thin Places
Liz Curtis Higgs who connects the world over with joy and compassion – no longer a bad girl!!
Lucille Zimmerman of the Denver Examiner Christian Counsellor column
Dave Cullen who wrote Columbine and connects deeply with those he writes about and to
Becky and Greg Johnson who use their own journey to connect deeply with friends and family.
Bill and Kristy Gaultierre who do Soul Shepherding for pastors and leaders and CLASS
Is that 24 yet? I know most of these from facebook connections – some from visiting. Now all that happens is that I need to get my friend Roxanne to be the US receiver to send them off so one to reward her and one for her to give away!! Blessings – over and out!!!

    Jeff Winchester says:

We are in the process of redefining leadership for our small group leaders. The importance of communication and connecting are critical in their development as leaders. With 24 copies, I would initially distribute the copies to the members of the church team that I lead that is responsible for all of the small groups. We would work through the material, and then redistribute to the next tier of leaders. This distribution would involve mentoring through book by staff to volunteers. And continue until we had invested the materials in each of the staff and lay leaders involved.

    Mike Cruz says:

I will give them to my business partners to prepare ourselves for the mission of assisting people in Rockford, Il where unemployment is among the highest in the state, if not the country. I wouldn’t want us to miss an opportunity to effectively communicate our solutions and ideas to help improve our community. I would also give them out to my friends who are going to the mission field. Any tool I could provide them to help them achieve the call of God on their lives and impact the world would be the best way to make sure your generosity makes a difference.

  56. 956
    Nancy Orta says:

I would share them with my co-workers, especially upper management. We are counselors and we need to have great communication skills.

  57. 957

I am a sports Pastor and administrate large children’s sports leagues and Adult leagues. I would give the books to my adult men leaders in our sports programs and and even develop a study with them on the book so that we could grow together to be better men, leaders and most of all followers of God.

  58. 958
    Lisa Darras says:

I work in a high school in the Special Education Dept. If I won, I would give a copy to my fellow co-workers. I would also give one to my husband and my 3 sons to read.

  59. 959
    Tia says:

I would give one to my pastor and other church leaders. I would also give one to every member of my home fellowship group. I know I have a problem connecting when I communicate and I also know that I cant be the only one. This book, as your others, will be a great way to kick off a discussion on our communication skills and how we can improve them. Thanks for the opportunity to win a free one.

  60. 960
    Selene Leone says:

Being able to bless potential leaders and enhance communication & connection skills with John Maxwell’s book…well, this would just be too good to be true! First I would send out a call to action on my FB and web pages to find people who are truly serious about taking this book and using it for that purpose. I would contact as many people as I know to learn how they could use the book successfully and share it with them, encouraging them to begin a book study or leadership group in their area. I would definitely encourage beginning a group at my church, Christ Fellowship, where leadership is always looking to grow and learn from successful leaders.

Thank you for the opportunity to participate – praying the best commentor wins!!

    Jim Laidlaw says:

I have a number of leaders in Non-profit organizations who could grow with the reading of this book. Communication is so important in NGOs these days.

  62. 962

I’m a youth pastor and have my own non profit organization. I would distribute the books to my ministry team, have us read them and do a extended study over several weeks. Then I would have each person give the books to some one they know (that would actually read it).

  63. 963
    Tim Davis says:

I would obviously read the book myself. I would also give one to various people I know (friend who just started a church, another who is in ministry, etc.)…i would also use some as giveaways on my blog or twitter.

  64. 964

On May 2, after 9 of the most difficult years of our church’s history, we re-launch an 80 year old southern church in Memphis, TN. It is a new chapter in the life of this church. I’d use copies of the book with the 16 elders and 9 full time staff to renew and refocus our effort on connecting with members and with the community.

  65. 965
    Cathy Truelove says:

I would share them with all of the teachers that I currently teach with. We work with students that have learning disabilities and I believe that this would be a wonderful opportunity for all of us.

  66. 966
    Jim Laidlaw says:

I am making a trip to see leaders who are investing in the new Haiti. I would love to give them a book during our meeting.

    Shelley K says:

As a newly hired Communications Director for a church in Nashville, I would love to have 24 copies of Everyone Communicates, Few Connect to share with the staff at my new church. Everyone will be looking to me for leadership and guidance to organize the church’s communication and suggest new ways to reach people…. We could read through this book together and I am sure get great ideas!

  69. 969
    Mrs S says:

As a grace widow with 5 blessings/children yet at home, I am starting my own business. I am not on any govt. aid. My extended family is deceased. God provides! The children and I would really like our own copies. We tried to inter-library loan this book but it is not yet available… so I would also donate one to our library. I know that they would appreciate it. I have many people that I mentor in business as well as personally so all of the books would get much appreciated homes. BTW, this is VERY nice of y’all to do this!! Be blessed, Mr Maxwell!

  70. 970
    Therese Theoret says:

I have seen people with leadership abilities, but they are frustrated because they don’t have the tools, nor do they know where to look. I can put this in their hands.

These books would encourage them (saved or not) in their daily lives. In fact, whether we realize it or not, we do influence people on a daily basis. There can be a ‘gold nugget’ for them that can encourage them in their daily life. This is a tool that can open their minds via through new information, an inspiration, a word, a truth,….. It’s all about helping people reach their potential in God.

  71. 971
    Rindy Walton says:

As a single mom of 3 incredible young men, ages 20, 17 & 14, I’ve recognized the abilities of the ‘next generation’. My 20 year old started his own business at age 17 & is going strong, and my 17 & 14 year olds regularly lead their peers and volunteer in many ways. As I’ve been on staff at a 2 1/2 year old church plant leading volunteers, I’ve seen other teens and more young adults step up to the plate and impact those around them, with responsibility and leading beyond their years.

If I received these books, I would give these to the amazing young adults to help guide them and help them grow in leadership and communication skills. These wonderful people have so much potential and eagerness to learn and lead–all we can do to mentor, guide and support them will take them to the next level! Too often we underestimate what our next generation is ready, willing & able to do!!

  72. 972
    Doug Humble says:

If I won a case of these books, I would share them with the staff and leadership teams of my church where we could all read it and learn from it. Then we would probably end up doing a sermon series out of it and teach our members what we have learned. The title sounds just like something we would do at Destiny and it also sounds like it would fit our ever growing church to a tee. We are all about getting folks to communicate and connect as that is how we have learned to grow, as evidenced by our 10% or better growth per year for over 7 years now. I can’t wait to read this whether I win it or not.

  73. 973
    Ana Davalos says:

I would give a copy to all my TNT Team in Training teammates. We are training to run a 1/2 or full marathon in order to raise funds for The Leukemia, Lymphoma Society. I believe it is people like these that are willing to contribute time and effort for a cure that deserve your book.

  74. 974
    Dawn Kojac says:

I would take the books, review them, come up with a lesson plan, and volunteer a class at the Dream Center at Victory Christian Church. I feel that it is important that everyone from any walk of life become and effective communicator. The people who need it the most are the ones who have not had good communication or opportunities to learn.

  75. 975

I would love to read this book and give copies to all the entrepreneurs I work with to help them rebuild the economy.

Obviously, I would encourage them all to pay it forward and donate the dollar value of the book to a charity of their choice.

    Pam says:

I am an assistant basketball coach at a division 1 university. Every season we have our players read books over spring break (usually they are motivational books where the players talk about what message they took away) and we have several other Maxwell books that the players choose from.

We have been toying around for a while about trying to find a book that ALL the team could read and this one sounds perfect. We struggled this year, and one of the biggest reasons was because we lacked leadership. In a world where our players are constantly walking around with their head down (because they are texting or playing on their iphone) we are trying to find ways for them to keep their heads up. I think this would be a great first step to getting them to put the phone down!

    Thank you.

  77. 977

In my current role as a part of a management team at a Walmart; I have come to know that communication is the biggest hindrance to our effectiveness as a team. I would use your book to teach/learn the value of effective communication. This would help us in our business environment and in our personal lives; volunteering and service as well.

Hello Mr. Maxwell! and Thomas Nelson Inc!

Thank you for the opportunity. I saw you speak at the SUCCESS symposium last year, and I am coming to see you again this summer, if you were to have speaking engagements in the Los Angeles area.

In any way, here is the link response to the contest:

In the Fall, I felt it was important for me to go back to the gym in anticipation of moving into a new academic position – my first as an administrator. Although my trainer was helping to prepare my *body* to deal with the real and imagined stresses of the job, he was also coaching my mind in matters of leadership. It was then that I was introduced to Maxwell’s work, which has proven to be helpful to my own thinking and work as a new administrator and emerging leader at my own institution and within my faculty.

There are a few possibilities that come to mind in terms of using Maxwell’s 24 copies of ECFC. Certainly, I could see inviting my counterparts from across the university coming together for Lunch-and-Learn Leadership sessions. But, perhaps just as importantly, I could see reaching out to the student body and a number of its student leaders to engage in much the same. Perhaps a shared community reading would be a nice “middle-ground” which could be used as a starting point and moving out from there to engage others for within/without the community.

My mother works for Boulder County Aging Services and is a certified long-term care ombudsman. Having watched her learning about how to work/interact/support the elderly, I would give copies to all of the long-term care ombudmen with whom she works. I think that the information contained within the book would help them in learning how to better communicate not only with the elderly, but with the staff at the area nursing homes. As my own parents get closer to needing care givers, it would be nice to know that they are well trained in listening and understanding.

I work for the USO, I am a Center Manger for one of their state side centers. I would pass them out to my Program Manger, Regional Director, 2 other Center Managers in my region and to the men and women in the Military. It would be a great tool to use within this Organization. I have read many of your books and use the knowledge that I have learned daily. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom! It is truly a blessing :-)

  83. 983

What a fantastic idea John. I would use 24 copies of Everyone Communications, Few Connect to build the skills of my leadership team. We have a group of about 26 supervisors, in a large social services organization. It is crucial to our job that we are able to communicate effectively, not only with our customers/clients, but also with each other. Several of these supervisors are in the early stages of their career development and are still working on refining the delicate skills required of those in the business of managing and leading people in a challenging culture. I would be most delighted to not only share the books with them, but to have them read through the book and meet weekly in small groups to discuss the content and have group discussion regarding the practical application of the material in the book. This would allow not only growth from the book material, but knowledge sharing and team building opportunities within the leadership group. Thanks for your consideration. :-)

  84. 984

I would distribute them to my leadership facilitation staff and to my leadership mentees to assist in his/her leadership development!

I’ll will used them to create a program to help new immigrants arriving to Canada. The best way to start a new life in this country is connecting and communicating not only with other immigrants, but with every person around. The creation of a program that instill communication will help new immigrants adapt to their new country.

    Thank You

I am a senior in college who is about to graduate and start working in my first full-time ministry role in a church. I would share this book with the different leaders of ministry groups that I work with, hoping they would use it to be connecting and engaging with the church members and non-church members they come in contact with. We would study it together, combined with prayer and study of the Word.

    Hi Mr. Maxwell.

I am part of a recreational christian canoe group and every given Saturday we have visitors from the Mainland, as well as from other countries who come and paddle with us for the first time. This is where I intend to giveaway your books. Furthermore, we have friends in the adaptive paddling community that we could share these books with as well.

Thank you for the opportunity to spread light into someone’s thinking.

I work at the largest religous cable network in the world, reaching more than 150 million people worldwide… Since we’re communicating God’s Word, understanding what we’re saying and how best to say it is crucial.

I would like to spread these books to our management team and departmental heads. Like a lot of people in the communications industry, we talk, but don’t always know or understand everything that we’re communicating with our fellow employees and with our audience. The world faces challenging times ahead, and I know it’s important that we be as effective and focused as possible on spreading God’s word.

I’ve heard you speak before, and I know my colleagues would benefit from the knowledge that you share in your books. Thanks for the opportunity, John!

    Darline Royer says:

I would ship the books to Kampala, UGANDA to be used for developing leaders in the high school (Kampala Apostolic Secondary School) which my husband and I founded in 2002 as an arm of our missionary ministrry and for the pastoral training programs which we established. The secondary school now has an enrollment of over 300 and is rated as one of the best in the city. We also opened a primary school, which has an enrollment of over 500. We retired from our missionary work in July 2008 and my husband passed away in April 2009. When we moved back to the USA from Uganda, we donated our personal library to the mission work (schools) in Uganda, including our collection of Leadership tapes and CD’s by John Maxwell.

  91. 991
    Steve McAlister says:

I would share these copies with the people in my office and make sure the library at my church has some copies to check out to others!

I am one of the NROTC Representatives that assist NROTC applicants in submitting their NROTC package for selection of the $180,000 NROTC College Scholarship. I would give it to the first 23 NROTC Applicants in my Recruiting District who will be receiving the NROTC Scholarship from the 2011 selection board. The 24th book I will give to my son, Isabelo Tabanguil, IV

  93. 993

I would resell them on amazon and then take my wife out on a really nice date.

    Just Kidding…

I would pass them out to all the young and talented and up and coming leaders at my church. All the young studs who I want to make a huge difference in the Kingdom of God. I’m not going to lie, it would also be pretty cool to tell everyone in Miami that I know John Maxwell on a personal level and he disciples one on one. Through his books! I’d love to pass them out and to help this city train leaders with John’s stuff. We live in the second most unchurched county in all of U.S.A., right behind Seattle. Well, I hope I get picked but if one person had to read this and I didn’t get picked, sorry for wasting your time that you will never get back again. Unless your John Maxwell! John Maxwell was once in a knife fight, and the knife lost.

    Diane Hidey says:

I am an Area Director with Young Life. My main focus in the ministry is recruiting and training our volunteer leaders and staff. If we are to ‘Reach A World of Kids’ in the next decade we will need more leaders. I have seen such a need for our young adults to know and understand their call and giftedness. Imagine the impact these leaders can have after working through this book, learning to communicate in a way that connects them to their audience. These young adults are involved in the lives of hundreds of teens. The impact of trained leaders reaching more students for the Kingdom…it would be eternal and yet significant in the near future as these students become leaders in their community.
I would set up a summer training course for my current leaders and a few hand selected college students who will be in town for the summer.
Thanks for the great principles I have already learned and put to practice in my ministry.

  96. 996
    Laurel Degener says:

I would share them with the leaders at the company I work for as well as members of my business team. I would share them with the leaders at my church. Most importantly I would share them with my teenagers and their friends because their generation is so into the technology of today, which is great, but at the same time they have less and less face to face interaction with each other. I would share them with leaders of our community and schools, and other organizations such as Boy and Girl Scout groups so that the future of the next generation will be impacted. I think it would be awesome for the adult leaders to learn from your books, discuss them, and then be able to take that information and share it with kids of all ages at a level appropriate for each one.

  97. 997
    Robin McLean says:

What an exciting potential opportunity – to share 24 copies of “Everyone Communicates, Few Connect” with my colleagues! First, I would give one to each of the six team leaders in our middle school, plus our Middle School Principal and two assistant principals (9). Discussions could enhance their monthly Leadership Council meetings. Then, since I am an agriculture teacher, I would distribute one to each of the regional presidents and secretaries for the National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE) , as well as the Executive Director and Assistant Director. (14) An online book discussion could then be placed at our NAAE Communities of Practice to share how concepts are being implemented to enhance communications in each region. That leaves one for me. :)

  98. 998

I would use these for an upcoming United Methodist Lay Speaker training session on communication and communicating to the world around you. What a great idea to use this book with John’ other leadership books.

    Ann Reighard says:

When we opened our new elementary school in 2006, our community of teachers, lead by our principal, read and discussed The 17 Essential Qualities of a Team Player. I am confident that it made a difference in our work lives, in the lives of our students, and in the lives of our families at home. I know that our staff would welcome a chance to continue our learning and gain a greater understanding of ways to communicate and connect more effectively.

I would use these two places. 1. I would use some for our church leadership ( Interim paster and elders). I would use these at our monthly meeting as a short study to improve how we relate to each other.
    2. I would use them at work for my managers and the staff to improve our relationships. I would set up meetings at lunch to review.
